Since I couldn't plant directly under the lilacs I went with an alternate plan. My pictures don't show very well, but 'Amethyst Beauty' has four and a half blooms! I'm really excited, and even DC likes. It is actually climbing the lilac limbs, yay!
Great! Add mulch to the pots to help keep the soil cool, the temperature more even and more moist.
