This juvie sits above the feeders, while another bird eats and brings food. The bird feeding the juvie is one I'm sure I've seen before, because of the stripe running from the eye all the way back to the ear (do they have ears?), and the lack of striping on the breast (which would indicate a female finch). Can anybody help ID this bird?
CLOSED: Odd looking little nanny bird
Female house sparrow.
Yes, bird have ears, they are located on the cheek, behind the bill.

For real? Female house sparrow? She just looks so strange, with no markings on the breast, and patches where it looks like she's regrowing feathers. Ah, is she molting perhaps? I knew that part about the ears...
Female house sparrows have no markings on the breast. She could have lost feathers for any number of reasons, a tussle with another bird, getting caught on something, mites...
Oh yeah, that's a female HOSP. I have tons of them around here.
Hack
We have less than tons, but enough. :) One thing I am glad for, these HOSP have no idea what a nesting box is. They actually nest in trees or nooks and crannies in buildings they can get into.
