CLOSED: Two birds in Newburyport, MA

Wells, ME

I was in Newburyport, MA (US) this past week and saw two birds I am having trouble identifying.
The gray/black(olive too?) one was in a pine tree and the other was near a reserve where the river and marshes meet the ocean. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe the first one is a Bobolink and the second a Purple Martin, female or young. I could be off on both, so wait for a confirmation. :)

Thanks, I did find a photo of a purple martin that was very similar, but only one of a bobolink that looked close. I have only seen adult male boblinks to date.

We have Bobolinks around here. This picture shows a female and her young. The last time I saw the males this season they were still in their breeding plumage, but will soon moult and end up looking like the females/immature.

Thanks again. Since they breed in May, I assume this is a male bobolink that is reverting back to non-breeding plumage. That might explain the black streak on the front.
