Can anyone identify this clematis by these leaves? It hasn't bloomed and may be it too much shade, or may not bloom till next year!
What Clematis?
It appears to be akebia, also known as chocolate vine. I grow it. It's lovely in bloom, but has proven to be difficult to control (I'll stop short of invasive) in my zone. It doesn't sucker to walls, etc, but it does travel underground and appear away from where it is planted.
BTW, they bloom in Spring, earlier than Clematis. Finches, chickadees or house sparrows will nest in them if you have a thick vining stand.
I admit it looks like that! I'm surprised it survives in my zone 5b!! It is close to the back of the house so maybe there is warmth from the foundation to maintain it. It really started growing up the trellis this year so maybe its bloomtime was too early the se much of.
Akebia can be cultivated to zone 4. Keep an eye on it. I liken it to wisteria 'cause it's very sneaky.
