Mystery plant in pot

Fort Worth, TX

What I PUT in the pot was a dahlia root that was iffy. I guess it didn't make it. What I had in the pot before may have come from Fall Roundup and been presumed dead. What I have in it now, well here is the photo. It is either a Texas native or a RU plant... Help? leaflets maybe 3/4 inches, stem about 3 inches each, overall height up to 8 inches and it just sprouted in the last 10 days

It is hard to tell at this point, but it could be a Partridge Pea, Velvet-leaf Senna or Rattle Bush.
All three are very good plants, so wait and see until it gets a little bigger to determine what it is.

Kind of reminds me of leaves of the candle bush plant.

That could also be it, I guess we will have to wait and see.

well I am not sure I didn't kill it. I picked the pot up and it had roots running out the bottom which broke off. The ground underneath was hard and dry. I watered and hope it will come back. it is in a 1 gallon. thank you for your guesswork. I guess no one gave me this at fall Roundup?

It looks like a Pride of Barbados seedling.....I have a nearly identical little plant that came up in the same pot where a POB grew last year.

I think someone did give me a Pride of Barbados. But it looks dead today. Had 3 or 4 inches down into the ground under the pot, darn...

Water- and sit it in shade, and hope

I would like to know if you ever determine what it is. I have a huge batch of these seedlings coming all over one area of my yard. It does look like some kind of senna, but I haven't had any of those for several years, and never in the area where they're coming up. I'm having to pull them up because they're coming up between pavers, but if I thought they were something worth saving, I'd try to pot some up.

this one seems to be dead. I thought black locust tree seedling initially, although I am not sure why I thought that. You should pot one up and see what it is if you can keep it alive. I had no idea roots went into ground, lol. Picked up pot and killed it.

Pattie, if your plant is coming up all over it is most likely this weed
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Starr_050419-0338_Phyllanthus_debilis.jpg
It was imported in the soil potted plants from other parts of the world and it is very invasive.
We have it come up at the greenhouse all the time. Check it and see.

Wow.do you know how much that resembles all the cardboard cycad palms I have!!! LOL

Josephine that is not what mine (in the pot) was, but I do see it popping up in my garden now and then.
