It is getting hot in this part of the woods with a hot dry summer forecasted for our area. What little bit of planting will probably be done under plastic flats, unless I can make some cold frames....probably not. Will any of you be starting fall veggies indoors?

I so wish I had found this a few months ago when I was planting all my flowers! Maybe I would have more blooms. My grandmother always planted "by the signs" but I have only recently developed an interest in gardening so I never really asked her about it. My mother told me she tried unsuccessfully to both potty-train me and wean me from my bottle when I was a baby. My Grandma told her to try again when the signs were right and it worked like a charm! So interesting...

Hi Evelyn! The PNW sounds wonderful. Especially in July in the south! I do hope you find your dream home (and garden). I haven't tried growing vegetables yet. I grew up on a small farm and my parents had a huge garden every year. I considered it all a chore - the planting,tending, harvesting and canning and freezing. Now I would like to grow a much smaller one myself but I don't have much room for one in the suburbs. I have only within the last few years started flower gardening and am still learning - mostly by trial and a lot of error. Lol. I also planted a lot in containers this year. And I must say that it is all starting to look really lovely! Even my husband is impressed! So much so that he is going to help me expand our front flower garden in the fall. I may even convince him to build me a small raised bed for a few veggies. And I will continue to read your posts for some guidance. :-)
