"Valentine" Bleeding Heart in bloom.
Shade loving perennial.
Deep red stems with gorgeous red dancing hearts and 3 feet green foliage.
Grows nicely in woodland gardens. Likes moist soil, but tolerates some dryness.
Spreads readily with added nutrients.
I use locally made compost, filled with llama, chicken, horse and cow manure along with natural forest products. Aged only for a season And sold by the 1/2 to 1 cubic yard. Good Stuff! and I need more this fall for the garden.
Post photos of your Valentine Dicentra Bleeding Hearts or any other Dicentra plants.
Red Bleeding Heart
I need to add one of these to my woodland garden.
I show our guests the blooming Red Bleeding Heart plants that are in our perennial beds.....
.... many look in astonishment.... as they never saw the Red or even white "Alba" ... they are accustomed to the Old Fashioned Pink.....and now love my King Of Hearts Fern Leaf bleeding hearts as they are now coming into bloom.... ... so lovely to see... here's a photo...
Ooh I love the color of your King of Hearts fernleaf bleeding heart. I need some for my shade garden. I have the light pink but this color is much nice.
The photo of the King of Hearts was taken in the early evening, so it looks darker. The color is more deep pink to red and the leaves have blue hue to them. Very fragile plant as well. I also have the Alba (white) and Luxurient ( deep rose) planted in the garden and in containers. They are planted beneath their matching Dicentra (tall standing BH). Just love it when they are all in bloom.
Also have the Western Pacific Fern leaf Bleeding heart. Their blooms are a light lavender and spread so quickly each year. Every Fall I have to dig patches up and replant into containers, then replant them in empty areas that need ground cover.
