Hi from Arizona!!! beleive me it's HOT!

Glendale, AZ

Hello! I'm Harold, just new member as of today, from zone 9, Glendale Arizona a suburb of Phoenix. You probably know by now it is a Challenge growing vegetables here!! I started a small container garden in mid April, and now have 15 containers from sweet potatoes to carrots tomatoes beans- peas- some lettuce-squash-cucumbers and some herbs. This is my first garden. I read about container gardening and it sounded interesting to me. But like I said it is hard in this heat!! it is anywhere between 100 and 110 deg almost every day. I water twice a day with a drip system,i also just finished putting up with the help of my wife of 39 years a shade screen. hope that helps. Well I am wishing to have a lot of questions answered. and getting to know many nice gardeners. I know I have just started here, but I have a question already! I am wanting to add some calcium to my plants esp. tomatoes, and peppers. would it be ok to crush up some calcium supplement pills and use it in my sprayer? Thank you very much hope to have some fun here and learn much more about gardening.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Welcome, Harold! I feel sorry for you having to deal with such heat. When I lived in Sacramento, CA, we had weather like that in August--I can't imagine living in that all summer!

I don't know the answer to your question, but you will get more exposure if you post your question in the beginning gardening forum. Best of luck to you, I hope you get a nice harvest!
