CLOSED: any idea what this.

Newcastle-under-lyme, United Kingdom

Can anyone help me to identify this please. It has no legs and moves in an action similar to a worm. When it crawls, a long snout appears at the front (similar to an anteater). It looks spiky down the sides of its body.

It looks like a maggot (larva) of a fly in the genus Fannia - see
http://www.whatsthatbug.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/larval_seed_adam_cu.jpg
for an image of one with its 'head' extended.
These sometimes are known as latrine flies - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fannia_scalaris
