Summer has descended upon us, but the flower beds are becoming more active.
My balloon flower has really taken off this year. It's loaded with blooms!
The coneflowers are still blooming like crazy. I really need to thin them out at some point in time as they are taking up too much space.
The daylilies have started blooming! Not sure what this one is, but it sometimes blooms as a double and sometimes as a single.
San Antonio Firecracker daylily. This thing is loaded with scapes and buds and I'm hoping that it'll rebloom. It didn't last year, but it was the first year in this bed.
Tennessee Coneflower and Zexmenia
June Blooms
Girl I am so jealous!! It all looks beautiful, you are the queen of coneflowers!!
Josephine, I think of you all the time when I look at my coneflowers. I remember the year yours got chopped off. If you'd like, I can bring you some seeds to toss out this fall or maybe try to dig up some plants for you in the fall.
What is the first bloom in your second post? Looks intriguing!
The crinums are so pretty!
Stephanie,I am so envious of your coneflowers. A new daylily today. Really wish I knew where these were from, I think one is called Tropical Storm. They are still pretty.
My black and brown eyed Susans are loving the extra rain. Out in the pasture was this double, far from any place that someone might have put a hybrid. Going to try and save seeds.
Some zinnias are getting close. I have spent the last couple days pulling larkspur and have bunches left.

Wow steph! Yes the coneflowers definitely like you :) And what's the flower in the second photo of your second set? Obedient plant?
Kitt your mushrooms look spooky! Lol
1 Daylily, 2 & 3 Balsam.. I love the variations in color, but apparently the buggies like the taste :(, 4 Echinacea 'Cheyenne spirit'
Oh Joy, you lucky dog! Wish someone would plant all those pretties when I'm not looking! Vice versa rather here, I plant one day, it disappears the next!
Nice display Dennis!
Nice Patio Dennis, you do a great job!!

Stephanie, Thank you so much for the offer, I will take some seeds at the next R.U.
Dennis, I'm so impressed with how neat and orderly your patio cactus garden is! Love it! I don't think anything at my house is orderly. :(
Becky, the flower is an American Germander. I've pulled out tons of it this spring, but have let a few patches live. It's an ongoing battle as it spreads like crazy in my flower bed.
Yes, but it sure is pretty and care free.
Shrooms in Houston are spooky at all times. I have no clue what they were, as they are gone now. Love your hard work Dennis. Finally am seeing butterflys and cats- moved 3 cats on a fern leaf dill over to their new garden. Saw a black monarch with the white dots as large as my palm on the one zinnia the deer left me. Nibbled just the new buds off, nibbled the tops of the serrano peppers volunteers too. Am now in a serious search for a sprinkler sensor that hates wabbit and deer, the dog pen is working on all but bugs as my daughter says
It is and that's why I keep some. I do enjoy the flowers and it adds height to the garden.
Stephanie - What is the white flowering plant (guessing a salvia/sage) in your 2nd post, 3rd picture? It's right next to the coneflowers.
Stephanie, beautiful Coneflowers! Mine are just starting to bloom.
Dennis, love the cacti and the neat look of your patio. Very nice.
Carla
Beautiful flowers and succulents everyone. I have no photos now on my computer and am unable to add any at this moment so I'll enjoy yours until I can get my computer completely back to normal. I love seeing your gardens!
Sandy, it's white salvia greggii. I love it!
Thanks, everyone. My containers look much more organized that the rest of my garden. It is nice to be able to move plants around as they change size. :)
My Haemanthus multiflorus, is starting to bloom for the first time. I still have it in a pot because I couldn't decide where it should go. I need to plant it by itself so the show won't get lost in the cacophony that is my cottage garden.
Oh that I could be a tenth as orderly as you are Dennis. Instead I am child like in my gardens, planting as whimsy takes me. Sigh.
Good news for me is that every day is an adventure in my garden. LOL.
Joy, can you say that plant name in English? ;) Just teasing! It's such a cool plant!
Heck fire Miss Stephanie, I was so proud that I even knew the Latin name. Ain't no way I could even come close to pronouncing that. I just say Wow a lot. I was beginning to think I had lost all of my blood lilies after the great puppy disaster of '13. LOL
Love the all variety of blooms and the more familar coneflowers!
Stephanie,I am so happy you told me balloon flower comes back for you. Now have had mine for 2 years!
Dennis, I admire your succulent display. It inspired me to group mine together but I will have to wait to use my shelving as I am hearing periodic "chirps" from one of my empty pots on the shelf.
I have one cute little bloom from this aloe. Daylilies are going strong.
My new shelving is made from some cut sandstone blocks that I got from a stone yard and some 2x6 rough cedar planks from Lowes. It it a lot cheaper than pre-made shelving options, and I am really happy with how it looks.
Dennis - What stone yard? Where?
I went to Alpine Materials in Southlake. I love that place. You drive in and they weigh your car, then you load up on stone and they weigh it again and charge you by the pound. Fun! :)
Anna, balloon flower produces tons of seeds, too. Each flower head becomes a seed pod and produces tons of tiny little seeds. The seed heads remind me of poppies because they also open up little "windows" at the top for the seed to come out of.
I must mulch too heavy and/or have too many fallen leaves. I have never gotten seedlings, but now will look for them
I love Alpine too . I wish I still had a pickup for mulch
Everything is so pretty, Joy! Hope you get the much-needed rain. The pink skullcap is spectacular. I love that stuff, but find it can get very unruly. I cut mine way back this year and dug some out. I'm sure I missed some and it will grow back.
My Strawberry Fields are starting to bloom like crazy. The only good thing about them is that they love the heat.
I dug up some stuff by my Blackfoot Daisy earlier in the spring to allow better air circulation. It's very happy now and rewarding me with new growth and lots of blooms. Just hope we don't get too much rain for it.
Love the Gomphrena, but darned if I can get it to re-seed. I didn't want to plant anything this year (what with the fear of further water restrictions) so didn't plant any. They are so pretty. Love the Mealy Blue, too.
Carla
Stephanie the middle plant is Lance -leaf Loosetrife a native plant.

I have an offer for free coneflowers if I want to dig some up in Richardson. Apparently someone has way too many and is going to pull them up and compost them. Anybody interested? I'd like to get a few for myself and would be glad to grab a few more if someone in the general DFW area would like. Can't promise that I have enough sun to keep them alive.
