A moth on my deck. We get a couple of these every year at this time and I don't know what they are, or where they come from. Why are they here, and why just one or two? It is about 6 inches across from each wing tip.
Ken gave me a good answer but I would like to know a little more like why my place and why just a few?

CLOSED: a silk moth?
Several species of giant silk moth (family Saturniidae) have become less common, apparently primarily because of habitat loss/degradation, possibly combined with being 'collateral damage' subsequent to control programs aimed at defoliating caterpillars...
