How do you propagate skullcap ?
Is is difficult to root ?
scutellaria / skullcap
If you mean the pink kind, I just dig up the small side growths of the larger plants. They usually have some small roots. I am not certain about cuttings as I have not really tried that. I do find that they do better if you do this very early in the season before it gets hot.
You need to get the new, young undergrowth. It spreads by underground runners. I usually have better luck in the fall than in the spring. You can also propagate by seed, if you can get the seeds before they fall.
So the seeds need to be very fresh ?
I've collected seeds and then planted them in the fall for winter sowing, but I've only done that once. The seeds are extremely tiny and hard to harvest, but it can be done.
