Stunted melons?

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey, all. The uber-cool weather seems to have stunted my charantais melons, sadly. Since I've only grown melons once before, I don't know whether to trust these will recover and go nuts or if it would be better for me to plant new ones.

Thoughts, please? Thanks!

Dunno if its the cool or not, but Charantais are small anyway. how many dtm? Looks like the rinds will stay green at maturity as well, Choices are always hard.

Brigid, where have you been? It has been forever.

Mine will not germinate. It has taken 1 month for my h20 melon to germinate. I think it's the cool weather. Melons like hot ambient and soil temps. My beans have even taken forever.

Everything may take 2months later this year. Easter was SO late, plants hekd iff so long, its drier than usual too. I noticed plants seem to just be waiting. Different areas show this in different ways, everything is all shaken up and tossed widdershins.

I sowed more cuke seeds last night bc none were germinating and I went out this morning and had a bunch of cuke seedlings. I guess I needed to wait 1 more day. Now they are crowded and some will have to be transplanted. Oh well at least I'll have cukes to pickle and they are enjoying this rain.

My seedlings were taking 4days min to start germinating, but once they did... Hope they survive. Glad storms have missed you that are so bad...Mn on I35 @ Ia state line.

Brigrid, I would sow more seeds and hope the others catch up. They might produce later then normal but who cares, as long as you get melons. I don't care when my plants produce as long as they produce.

Kitt-out of all these storms we have gotten very little rain and nothing severe but tonight strong storms are predicted.

I saw those. Most of these along the way were the same- short on rain and big on looks.

First, hey, frostweed! I've just been swamped at work and miserly with my time. :)

Thanks for all the replies. Days later and the seedlings don't seem to have grown at all, so I'll tuck a few more seeds in and see if they do better. The last time I grew these melons I didn't get many, but they were the sweetest melons I have ever tasted.

Kittriana, I think it said 90 days to maturity. Since I planted them a month ago, seems like they should be more than 4" tall! Maybe I'll take a few clockwise laps around the garden to boot. ;)

Just catchin their breath, try a bit of fertilizer, a sprinkle, an be patient. Now is a good time to ressow if you are going to as well. Double insurance...
