Thistle seeds for zone 7

West Babylon, NY(Zone 7a)

My yard used to be infested by thistle that were dark green, huge spines, and when flowering got about 5 foot tall with lots of purple flowers. They all vanished over the years, so I'd like to grow more from seed. Looking for large and showy varieties.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Thought I would say Hello .
Bull thistle
Milk thistle
Both grow here , I don't always keep seeds
I used up the last of the Variegated and globe thistle seeds this past week (neither are growing so far )
I can send you some seeds later if you do not find any . LMK

I didn't know they had variegated thistle that would of been fun to grow!

This comes in a white bloom (alba) The purple of most thistle blooms ) and a variegated form .
Difficult to find sometimes and the Variegated does always variegate from seed .

Found variegated, having trouble finding Bull Thistle, that's apparently what I had growing here and the finches loved the seeds, and the flowers attracted hummingbirds and butterflies.

I have new ones all over the back yard , Let a few get away last year , apparently they like being stratified . I don't believe I can move any , deep tap root and 3 inch spines .
I was planning on letting one or two of them grow , they are large enough to be overwhelming though , for sure (smaller garden here )
I found a dry thistle bloom last night , Only I do not remember which it is , unmarked baggie . I missed one ..

I can keep an eye out for some of the tall purple flowered ones to go to seed. They are wild here also :)

West Babylon, NY(Zone 7a)

They grow wild here but I'd have to wait until fall for seeds, I need to plant seeds now so next year they flower .

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I know you really want the seeds and I will look again ,
Their are a couple plants growing in the Backyard that are a foot tall , by now their roots will easily reach down three or four feet ,too deep to dig ,
Their are smaller ones though , if your interested in trying a few plants ,) only once I have moved one successfully ,, Option b or c perhaps ?
I know this is rather wrong of me . but there are places on Etsy and such where you can buy them ,
Excuse me for suggesting that though (i know it is rather rude or forward here , )

I wanted to thank you though for having me search ; I found out that there is also a white Bull Thistle , I did not know that at all ., never even heard that ,,

If you had moved a small one to a pot and it established itself good enough to ship that would be ok, I just don't know from what you said if they will live. I've checked ebay and amazon and they don't even sell seeds of them, this was my last hope.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Etsy Seller;UnfetteredWood Sells them , I think about $2;50 was what I read .

There are three or four I know of , I can drill digger down around them , seal the entire root and send them to you .
If they live , however you want reciprocate , is to you ..

About the same for the little plants as it for the seeds , as far as postage and cost , Usually a couple $'s is what it costs to ship .
In a pot would be more , I don't think they would do well in a pot , because their roots dig and go , down and down those roots go forever ,,

Thank you Keithp2012 ,

let's try this link ; one says yes the other says no , you might ask this seller ;

They are in full bloom here, so on Thursday, when I head to town, I will see if I can find a few early seeders.

If b&t sells them then I might just try them if I can't get free seeds. I have ordered from them and they are good as a backup
