tULIPS SUITABLE FOR tEXAS

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

I know there are people her who want to grow tulips.

The ones hich work best for us are the Impressions.

When they first came out, there was Red Impression,
then a few years later, we had Pink Impression.

Now Orange Impression and Apricot Impression have
been introduced.

I have seen them offered on pre-sale several places,
including here..

The only tulips that I have had any luck with are the small, species tulips like tulipa clusiana "Lady Jane". Those have successfully perennialized at my house.

Ooh. are they / have they bloomed ?

Would love to see pics !

Sorry, bad timing. They were just finishing up and the winds we have had this week knocked all of the remaining petals off.

There is some kind of native tulip that grows here, but I don't remember the name of it. I have successfully grown tulips by putting them in the fridge, then planting them.

Dennis do you know if the other small species tulips would grow here? I grew a few species in MI and they do come back year after year. I hadn't thought about them for TX.

I grew tarda and linifolia.

I'm not sure. I have a mix of these two varieties:

tulipa clusiana var. chrysantha
tulipa clusiana "Lady Jane"

I had planted a few other varieties at one point, but these are the ones that keep coming back reliably year after year without any special care.

Here is an article that mentions some other varieties for Texas:
