This morning my son found one of the above in the downstairs hallway. I have never seen anything like it before. It was about 4"long but I'm not sure of the color. It's legs were short but it moved quickly. I think it was black and gold with some reddish color on it, maybe..to be honest I stepped on it as quickly as I can't remember. What was it and is it poisonous?
Millipede or centipede?
See if this is it.

Thanks Stephanie, but I really can't remember...it seems like it was black and gold, with some red. The light wasn't very good in the hallway and it scared me bc I'd never seen anything that big, except in pet shops and this thing was in my HOUSE. I do think it was milipede bc the legs moved in a wave like fashion, and weren't very long....but it moved pretty fast, at least to me.
The red gets so deep looks black. Usually they come in for damp or food-like a scorpion. Looks like drought an heat is extending their visibility. Be careful turning anything over with your hands...
http://a-z-animals.com/animals/millipede/ we see if this works.
IDK, I wish I'd paid more attention before I stepped on it. It really frazzled me and that unusual...maybe it was the screaming 16 yr old ( when I heard him scream, I thought I don't remember having girls?) or the 80lb puppy. Now that I look at the pics I think it was reggish with yellow strips and some black. They say millipedes don't move very fast but I disagree. Lol are they poisonous?
Can move. crunchy to step on. that pic shows a black/gold one. Millis not usually bite/sting. Poor boy! Chuckl, hard on vocals. centis like it drier.
Kitt-I thought I had the thing etched in my mind but now I can't remember it..beginning to think it was reddish and yellow with a little black. Thank you tho, I have never seen one before and don't need to see another one.
