Here is a baby I received from Barb...this is it's first blooms
Baby Cypress Garden Plant
Isn't she just the prettiest thing. I'm having one of those next year. Thanks to all of you, I'm having a lot of brugs next year and I can't wait. Gosh, the snow hasn't even started and I'm thinking about spring.
Very pretty Gloria.
S.
S,
When can you start planting outside?
Gloria maybe I am doing somthing wrong. How are you getting those small brugs to bloom??? I place mine in the ground they are growing Ok but havn't bloomed as of yet Am I not waiting long enough or what???
Pete
Gloria, I'm afraid I can't put anything tropical outside until about May 1. Doesn't that just frost a guy!!
Brugie, Don't feel bad. Memorial Day is the day you will see most people here in NH out in their gardens planting their first plants of the season. And even then we keep our flannel sheets closeby just in case for a couple more weeks.
That's quite a baby glory! It's gorgeous - looks like those flowers are gonna tip him over.
Pete,
I have no idea why these small plants bloom so nice....they get lots of water...osmocote(sp) and that's about it.
Well you are doing a great job with them for sure.will see if mine bloom next year. My orginals are blooming well in fact they are in bloom now. Just looking foward to my new cuttings to bloom also
Gloria, i agree with that osmocote.. i bought some with minors. i would never get around to using peters every week, do throw out peters bloom booster on them once in a while. BTW, beccalynn is blooming, so very pretty! and my jamaican yellow finally got its first open bloom today.
Arlene. All my cuttings are doing great that you sent me. I went to Home Depot Saturday and bought some Osmocote but do you wait for the cuttings to grow fairly good roots before you put the Osmocote in the soil?
Arlene,
What does that flower on the Jamican yellow look like...is it a normal looking flower?
Snow,
I mix the Osmocote in my potting soil that I mix up in a wheelbarrow full at a time....whatever gets potted gets osmocote no matter how large or how small.
Will have to give Osmocote a try. Want back to vicki web site on brugmansia and read it all again twice I think I can get more blooms out of my burgs Osmocote just my help thats again
Pete
Very nice Gloria. Bet you have the best smelling gh in town! I also use osmocote for most everything, get it at Lowe's in the big bag, 22lb. size, I think. Use Peters as a booster later. Osmocote is great also for pond plants...makes it so much easier. Fertilize in the spring and be done with it and the lilies bloom like crazy.
Jean
Thanks Glory. I'll start mixing it in now then. I could'nt get a large amount of it. All they had at Home Depot was a 1 1/2lb container. They won't be getting any more till spring but I bought a few so it should last me for a while I hope.
Jean...I never thought about using osmocote in pond plants...thank's for the idea...when do you apply the osmocote? Do you have to repot the plants to use it in the pond or do you just add it to the existing?
You're welcome Gloria. In the spring when I divide, I just put 2-3" of dirt (mostly clay) in the bottom of the pot; sprinkle in about 2 Tbsp. of osmocote; add a layer of dirt on top of the osmocote; then plant. If I don't have to divide a plant, I just take the pot out of the pond, tip it over on it's side to drain as much water out as possible. Then, poke a hole or two in the dirt (away from the plant) and pour in the osmocote. Plug up the holes with a wad of wet clay and top off with pea gravel. This has worked well for me for 2 years now and it sure beats fertilizing with those pond tabs once a month.
Jean
Jean,
I agree...my pond is 20x40 so I have to get into it when ever I need to do anything....Thanks again Jean...must be the name that makes you so smart. LOL For you that don't know what we are talking about Jean and I have the same frist two names.
