Hi all,
I have a Jackmanii clematis that doesn't start to flower until about mid-summer. I was wondering if I could plant some annual sweet pea vines at the base of it? The sweet pea flowers (since they bloom earlier) would cover the green leaves of the clematis until it starts to flower later in the season. From what I read about both plants, they both like rich limey soil, lots of water, and sun. What do you think about this idea?
Thanks, Jane :>)
Can you plant other flowering vines with clematis?
Welcome Jane.
You could plant sweet peas but buy the ones that do not self-seed all over or you may regret it.
Please post photos if you decide to do it.

Yes, please. I would like to see the results as well.
Beautiful!
That's beautiful! I'm definately gonna go for the clematis/sweet pea vine combo!
