I have recently recieved two peoples postage for Brugmansias. If anyone has not recieved Brugmansia that has sent me postage please post here so I can know whether to send 2 more batches out or not. I have the addresses already. If unsure though, please send address again.
Unsent Cuttings?
Better send your address again Brugcrazy as I am not sure I sent any to California. Sent a few packages out to Tx and further North.
I didn't get any yet but I sent mine a little late.CC
Crestedchik, sent yours out today. Sent you DxS (M) as that was all I had left. Its much earlier than the other 2 DxS hybrids and your the only one with that hybrid.
Brugcrazy-yes-I mailed yours out in a good box-postal service said 4-7 days-sorry I don't remember when exactly I sent your package to Canada-but it should be their shortly if not already. Believe I sent a Double orange with yours as well to Canada.
If it doesn't arrive soon I will be kicking myself for not sending them Global Priority. 4-7 days seemed good enough. Go figure. Keep your fingers crossed for me Brugcrazy.
Eric....what was crossed with what to make your DxS M and DxS R and L hybrids?
I planted a few seeds today.....first attempt:) Wish me luck:)

Dr.Sues x Solid Gold, Oblambert. I love them all, but each one was saved for different reasons. DxS M was the first to bloom and has the most variation in her color shades she goes through. DxL and DxR are my favorites for shades of color and overall shape-although DxS M...well lets just say perhaps I should have kept all 3 and crossed them together until all the traits were on one plant, but I wanted to give everyone a chance to hybridize with these early bloomers as many need seedlings to bloom in the first year instead of the typical 2-3. I trully love them all though.
Thanks Eric. I thought that's what you had told me, but my memory is not too great anymore.....am gonna have to start keeping notes:)
Hey, another stupid question: Can I pollinate a brug with a datura (in attempt to get more colors)??
Oblambert,
Brugmansia have been crossed with datura in laboratory conditions and grown up to flowering size and they did flower. Rich Sanders has some posted information on that on his website I do believe. Others have tried to graft the pistals of a Brugmansia on a Datura etc in hopes of getting a cross. A Purple double metel crossed to a Redflava or a Double purple metel crossed to Double pink candida....the results would be well worth the initiative. Apparently Brugmansia and Datura do have the same chromosome numbers, but I think the best method would be to cross in a laboratory type situation removing the outer cell membrane of the two or however many species one was working with, recombine and then treat with a doubling agent like colchicine to produce a new viable species with both genes inherent to make crosses with. In essence, Metel x Flava would then only be hybridizable with other Metel x Flava, Metel x Arborea, Metel x Sanguinea crosses. Metel x Candida would be hybridizable with Metel x Aurea, Metel x Versicolor, etc. There is a chance that they would all be able to hybridize with each other though and even that they would be self fertile. Metel x arborea would be what I would hold the highest hopes of being self fertile. Such crossing would most likely need to be doubled before they would yield viable offspring though and they would not be able to be crossed with the aurea hybrids, flava hybrids etc that were not treated. As doubling often brings out new possibilities and exaggerates pre-existing triats perhaps simply doubling the hybrids we already have and crossing these doubled hybrids or tetraploids to each other would show us much more variation without having to bother with much of anything else.
