Fuchsias

Grandview, TX(Zone 8a)

Does anyone in DFW plant fuchsias in the ground as perennials?

I haven't but I almost did last year. Just couldn't decide on which color I wanted. For once I'm glad I was indecisive b/c I'm not sure if they would have survived this year's snow, sleet, thundersleet, and just plain old freezing cold weather.

Steph!! So good to see you posting over here! I've missed your posts. Hope you and your family are well.

Hi Steph :) I'm glad to be back on. I've recently moved, still in Burleson though. I have fresh space to fill with plants and flowers.

I found some fuchsias at WM and was wondering how they would do here.

Is there a date set for the spring RU yet?

I'm alot further south than you, being in W. Houston, but all the fuchsias I've tried have fried! I just LOVE them and want them so bad but they didn't even survive in semishade/bright light areas, mostly dry and semiwet areas. I just couldn't figure them out. I posted on the fuchsia forum to see if I could get some help. they only thing I might try is to have them as a houseplant :) Good luck, if you try. Post pics if they bloom! Janet

Just re-read this and wanted to say I just bought a fuchsia, "Dark Eyes", that I found at Cornelius. I'm going to pot it and try it in the house. I have a nice spot in the kitchen where 2 windows meet at a corner. My orchid loves it there. I really hope I can keep it going!
