Hello,
I just got this new suet feeder (we previously fed seed but I got fed up, no pun intended, with the feed getting clogged due to moisture) and it's been up a week or so. We just saw our first bird at it the other day but never saw this kind before. In addition to this one, I saw another that I've never seen before too but didn't take a pic of that. Anyway, I was hoping you could help identify. Sorry I don't have a better pic but I was 15' away taking it with my Iphone through glass. I live in south central PA if that helps.

Either Downy or Hairy Woodpecker - tricky at this range and without a sense of its size. How long is the feeder?

Not sure on overall length but the square part is approx the length of my hand so maybe 8".
Thanks! That would make it Hairy Wp. (Downy is a fair bit smaller).

We get both, and once you see them both a few times, it is easier to tell which is which. The female Downey has no red, but the male has a red spot on the back of his head. We have several that visit our suet feeder.
Sweet, thanks guys! I saw another bird last night but didn't take a pic. I'll have to snap one when I see him again.
