Species ????

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Several of the online nurseries offer "Species" but none of them say which species.Am I missing something here.I understand that there are either five or six species depending on whether or not Vulcanicola is counted.
The one I have has pubescent, non serrated leaves. The tag
from Logee's,simply says Brugmansia "Species"

"Species" is a wild aurea versicolor or wild aurea x versicolor. It's a white double. Gorgeous.
Hope I wrote that down right.

LOL!! Expert on phone and me with pen in hand, that's all:) I think it is a cross - wild aurea x versicolor, but was writing fast:)

The Candida species I sent out-its not a versicolor, at least if one were to base identification on the seedpod, much more of a candida type. Seedpod is velvety. I recieved it from Native Habitat....One can also base identification on crosses though. If one crosses something that is half versicolor with a versicolor you will get several true looking versicolor crosses. If you cross something that is half aurea-you will get several true aurea looking hybrids. Many will be mixes between the two of course. A pure versicolor crossed to an aurea won't result in an aurea looking hybrid. At least in my experience. Candida x Candida will throw out versicolors, aureas and candida types. My Candida x candida pinks are all versicolor types so they should throw out versicolor hybrids. If they showed candida flower shape and seedpod one might expect to get some aurea's from them. Hope this all makes sense to everyone. In other words, seedlings from half crosses to other half crosses can be tricky. In my oppinion such multiple crosses involving halfbreeds for lack of a better word between 2 crosses are extremely variable in what they produce. The seedlings from such crosses may or may not be. Seedlings with both aurea and versicolor in the mix tend to be more velvety and sometimes serrated...
Has anyone done any crossing with those hybrids that has produced seedlings?
Glory, Does the above linked hybrid form versicolor or candida type seedpods? If memory serves me...Lee has produced Doubles with the Species, but not with the other hybrids....

Brugman,
I have never had seed pods on my Species...don't know an awful lot about it....sorry.

Glory,
Its okay, I don't know an awful lot either, but I tend to put out everything I think I know from my experience until someone else posts something different from their experience. I figure, the only way to learn new things is to share and occassionally be proven wrong or at least be shown that their is at least an exception or two. The above flower most certainly looks very candida like to me though. Not much seperation in the Calyx and the corolla to note.
