Looking out my window, I saw what I thought was just an American Robin. It caught my eye and I starting looking at it more closely. Realized it didn't look like any Robin I've seen before. I've seen babies, juveniles, and adults... and they didn't look like this. This bird appears to be more black than my normal robins. Then I noticed the mostly white breast and the lack of white around the eyes. So while I could be wrong, I'm pretty sure it's NOT a Robin. I've never seen an Oriole of any kind before. But for some reason I'm inclined to think that's what it is. Although... I couldn't quite find a similar picture to compare it to. Plus, this is only March and I read that they usually start coming through Middle Tennessee in the April. Maybe it's early?
Any ideas?
CLOSED: Robin or Oriole?
beautiful Eastern Towhee male
Eastern Towhee it is! Thank you! I didn't think it looked like any of the pictures I've seen of Orioles, but I've never seen a Towhee before, either! I'm just happy I have a new bird to add to my spotted list! *happy dance*
Thanks, DonnaB, for the ID! :-)
