The first is Big Bluestem (Andropogon gerardii) as a mass in downtown Chicago in August; the second is Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) at a historic place in Lockport, IL in August, the third is a mass of Prairie Dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepsis) at the Lurie Garden in Chicago, IL, the forth is Shenandoah Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) in my back yard and there are several cultivars and the straight species; and the fifth is Virginia Broomsedge (Andropogon virginicus) in winter growing wild near a park in se PA.
Native Ornamental Grasses
The Little Bluestem and white benches are such a simple combination, but very striking.
