Coopers Hawk or Owl

Chicago, IL

Snapped photo of this bird in my Chicago backyard. Brown spotted back looks like that of an owl. Long brown tail with black bars looks like a Coop. Yellow eyes are common to several of the possible correct ID. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cooper's Hawk - it doesn't have an owl's face.

Thank you Resin

Are Cooper's hawks smaller than red tailed hawks? I've seen this smaller "hawk" a couple of times in my backyard, scoping out victims around our bird feeders. The upper chest is tan and fades to almost white on the belly with black bars on the tail. Small head and definitely smaller than our resident red tailed hawks.

Yep, quite a bit smaller.

Thanks, Resin. My eyesight isn't quite as good as it used to be and didn't think to grab the binoculars and the bird had his back to me so couldn't quite check out the less obvious markings.
