Soon to be moving from San Diego, CA to Palm Springs, CA

Been an avid gardener all my life in the San Juaquin Valley, in San Jose, CA, in Florida, but never in the desert. So I be very interested in referrals to books or website that can help me convert my gardening knowledge to gardening in the desert.

Anyone in Palm Springs who can help general garden "stuff"?

Anyone out there had any luck growing avocados in Palm Springs, CA?
