starting in pottery

New Franklin, OH

I have been interested in pottery for quite a few years but due to work and having children never fully got started. Now I have the passion again and started to do some research on the web and to my dismay have found that there really doesn't seem to be many in the business anymore. Seems all but a few ceramic shops (in Ohio anyway) have closed. Am I wrong to think that this is a dying art? Do people still make and sell real honest to goodness hand built and thrown pottery? Can people make a living out of it anymore? Any information, suggestions or hope would be appreciated.
