A couple of days ago, I set out some bare root stock:
Peaches: Loring, Red Globe, and Fairtime
Nectatines: Fantasia
The whips were of very good quality. But I couldn’t be satisfied with that for being dissatisfied with the weather and soil conditions, too cold and too wet.
Thinking about it while planting, I began to feel relief that I don’t rule over the big thermostat and the big sprinkler system. The phone would be ringing all the time! The harder I worked the diggers and raked the dirt, the more relief I felt.
Have any of you all had any experience with what I planted?
Peaches, an auspicious beginning?
I am not familiar with your Zone 8a varieties. But I will say that for the plants, cold and wet is better than hot and dry. Unless you were trying to plant in wet clay - that will come back to haunt you.
