CLOSED: Some kind of widow?

Prince George, BC, Canada

My kids found this guy under the stairs, there were two of them in different spots, possibly three. I was trying to catch one but it took off. Found one in a different spot. There are a few small spiders in there. Also in the web are 3 dead spiders with longer legs and smaller bodies. There are dead bugs as well. Three big black wood type beetles in a pile, and another pile of smaller bugs.
He definitely has something on his belly. I couldn't get a picture of the top of him though. It looks like the symbol is possibly brown. I did a google image search and got this?

This spider belongs to the same family (Theridiidae) as black and brown widow spiders, but it is in a different genus, Steatoda. Sometimes called 'false widow' spiders, some species can have a very painful (but not dangerous) bite.
