My daughter bought Iris rhizomes for me at a church bazaar. I read last week it's time to plant spring bulbs. As cold as it has been, should I put them in the ground? Thanks for any advice.
iris
Iris are actually rhizomes, not bulbs. They are typically dug and planted in the fall here in TX but are pretty hardy so you should be fine to go ahead and plant them now but the sooner the better! You may not get bloom this year, though, since they won't have much time to establish before the spring bloom season.
Edited to add this is for typical common bearded types of iris, not Dutch iris.

By the way, the rhizomes require sunshine, so arent buried- just the roots, mulch with pine straw if the bare rhizome above ground worries you...but iris will live if just tossed out in the compost pile and ignored. The older ones-flags for sure will...
