Hello, I have just started trying to ID sparrows. I am thinking this may be a young White-throated but not sure. It is in Ohio in the winter. I id'd an adult White throated and an American Tree Sparrow both were text book. This one is more confusing. Thanks for any help!
CLOSED: Please help ID this Sparrow
I don't know my sparrows, but that is a lovely photo!
My first impression is Song Sparrow with that long tail and overall facial markings, but wait until another confirms this.
When I first started to ID birds, I said I never wanted to bother with sparrows because they all looked alike. Turns out I'd rather try to identify them than any sandpiper or gull! Also, we get plenty of sparrows that come to our property, so can become familiar with them.
Ditto to Song Sparrow

Hello! Thank you so much for your help and your very nice comment on my picture! So funny because I said the same thing about sparrows! Now I have created a special album to photo journal all my bird sightings and yesterday decided to start on sparrows too and I am really enjoying it! Thank you again...excited to have found this forum!
I have photo albums, too, showing all birds we've identified. I try to include both genders, if they look different, and juvenile/immature and breeding plumage.
Have you found this yet?

Just jump in on any discussion. I like the Appallingly Bad Pictures. I need to get some new ones on there. :)
Thank you! I will check it out! We have been watching and identifying birds for years. I have taken many pictures but have just started the album. I am really enjoying it! I hadn't ever seen a yellow-bellied sapsucker before but last winter one showed up and spent the winter feeding at our feeders. I was sad as he hadn't returned this year but yesterday he showed up! (of course not sure he is the same one!). I was so pleased. I miss my brown creeper who came every winter for four years but not last year or this year. I think he is one of the sweetest birds! I love your ID picture! Thank you for making me feel so welcome!
