DIY shampoo wool rug

I am shampooing my carpets, synthetic. I can do this in 2-3 hrs. I am then taking the rented machine (pd for 24 hrs)to a friends who has 2 large wool rugs, 10 x 12. I am using a mild/weak homemade cleaning solution. Shampooing wool rugs is do-able, right? I have learned over the years using little water is the secret . . rugs do not get soaked.
