CLOSED: Please Help! Can someone identify this insect?

Calgary, Canada

Hi,

Last year I started having these tiny red dots on my body and they were quite itchy. I wasn't sure why they showed up but they were extremely annoying. After a few weeks I looked into my dog's bed and it had a bunch of these little bugs, they didn't seem to like the light. I washed the dog bed and didn't have any more problems with them. Well same time this year and I just found the same type of insect crawling across my carpet, no bug bites this time around tho, yet.

Can someone please tell me what insect this is? And if it's responsible for last year's bug bites? I'm in Calgary, Alberta, Canada by the way.

This is a rove beetle (family Staphylinidae); they are general predators on other small arthropods, and would not be responsible for your bite symptoms.
