security camera system

suburban K.C., MO(Zone 6a)

Does anybody else have the Harborfreight 4 channel security system? I bought it new in June of 2012. I know it's cheap and everything but I'm not zooming in on faces or anything here. Anyway, it says "video loss" now.
I don't know if the hard drive in it has went out or what? I wanted to show my friend here what a jackoff the cable guy was yesterday, snatching papers out of my hands and everything. Anyway, that wasn't recorded, nothing has recorded in months I see. I haven't looked at it in months but it's been hooked up. Maybe this is just a case of, "you get what you pay for"? It's easy to hook up, anybody can do it. I only have one channel (camera) recording, I've switched out that camera, (which comes with the new 60 feet of cord). This second camera had never been used or the 60 ft. cable. Believe me, I've experienced operator error before but I've checked and double checked (and triple checked) all the connections, (it's just a few bnc connectors and rca jack connectors, (btw, bnc is just a fancy name for "twist and turn so they don't pull out connectors"). The hd is I think 540 gb, it is set to overwrite on the old video, which happens about every 3 months. I looked around in setup or whatever it's called and it says the hd is okay.
I was just wondering if anybody else has had a problem over time, with possibly overheating and ruining the hd?
I'm at a loss here.
Thanks, Will
