(Alocasia macrorrhizos 'Albo-Variegata')

Greenback, TN(Zone 7a)

I bought the Mother plant well over a decade ago and anyway moved from zone 10 a to zone 9 a and over the years she has not done well outside at all . Last season there was one last sprout where the Mother plant was so dug the pea sized bulb up to try to overwinter it and looked dead this spring . Not to be wasteful I used the soil with this plant while planting herbs .
LOOK what came up !

If your macrrorrhiza is 10 years old you should have over 500 babies.I get dozens of babies every year.
I love your new alocasia.

Ugh Belle I made the mistake of planting it in the ground here in zone 9A and it did not work for me . But in over a decade I've shared and shared and shared this plant for sure !
The Mother plant all those years ago came from a nursery on Pine Island in Florida . I'm just surprised I still have one !

I think the 'Albo-Variegata' is a bit more cold sensitive than some other types of Alocasia macrorrhizos. But it looks like you've saved yours and with a bit of TLC you should be back to giving away lots of tubers soon. Mine's growing nicely now but I've had it for less than a year.
