tips for growing culinary sage in Central TX?

Dewey, AZ(Zone 7a)

I have no problems at all growing salvia, but culinary sage has not fared well under my watch. Suggestions?

The one I really want to grow is Berggarten, but if there is another that works better for the hot, humid summers here, I'm all ears.

Please advise?
Thank you in advance!

I find that mine has done the best with afternoon shade, but it tends to quit on me in the middle of summer like cilantro.

I've got this one tiny plant that made it through the summer, but it has not thrived at all. Poor thing...sure not enough to cut sage from for cooking!

I try to grow an abundance both in spring and fall just in case it doesn't make it through the summer. Here is a summary on what you can do to be sure you have good quality sage all year round.

Fresh sage leaves should be aromatic and should have no soft spots or dry edges. Wrap in paper towels and store in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. Use within 4 to 5 days.

Fresh leaves may be covered in olive oil and stored in the refrigerator up to 3 weeks. Use the flavored oil for sauteeing or in salad dressings.

To freeze fresh sage leaves, wash and pat dry, remove leaves from the stems, and pack loosely in freezer bags. Freeze up to 1 year. Be aware that freezing will intensify the flavor of the herb and adjust accordingly.

I freeze basil all the time, and make rosemary oil for cooking...I guess I'll try sage too. :~)

:( I didnt keep pix, salvia officianalis is common sage, grows into a bush 6' tall and grows in Texas panhandle, like crazy. We have them here as well just not as tall. Culinary. 8" before using sages for cuttings. Give them heat and drainage (a raised area?) Full sun, with air circulation such as an open area (next to the street where cars move the wind?)

That might help. Problem is our humidity...mornings are like a wet blanket here some days. I might move the one I have out to the street, though. Right now it's up closer to the house. Thanks!

I need to look up Windcrest...hmm SAntone, I did well with Golden sage 'Aurea" but had it planted too lo to ground level and crowded, My raised bed gets the herbs out of the dewpoint ranges and they do much better above that area.

I've been thinking of doing a berm of desert plants out closer to the street...that might just work!
