This is an old ee I have had forever and now it is just long with leaves at the top.
Can I get it to put on leaves farther down?

Looks like an alo.................if it was mine (and if it is, indeed, an alo) I'd cut the stem about 6 or 8 inches below the green and stick it back in the soil. I've done it with mine and didn't seem to set it back much........it's 6 feet tall again, at least. And you can root the stem, lay it lengthwise in a planter and in a year or so you'll have more than you know what to do with. It takes a long time to get more plants.

I thought I had a photo of the stem in the planter.......but I had to go look for it first.

Thank you so much. I am going to try that cause it isn't very pretty the way it is and I have taken starts already from it so I would hate to lose it but since I have starts it wouldn't be so bad if I didn't do something right.

Thank you for replying to me.

Are they getting enough sun? They love full sun.

Yeah they are just really really old and have lost leaves thru the years and I have cut off leaves, so I was just wandering if they could be made a little prettier.

Mine has long stems and large leaves. Do you have large leaves?

That's the normal growth for Alocasia macrorrhizos. The plant produces leaves at the top of the stem which continues to get taller. The stems are eaten after special preparation. They're particularly popular in Fiji and other South Pacific areas. The plant normally produces pups around the base when it gets tall.

Yes, there are a bunch of pups coming up in the pot, I could cut the big stalk off but was just curious what to do about the trunk of the mother plant. Rather I could save it or not.

thanks tropic

I found when I cut mine off and stuck it back in the pot, it didn't phase it a bit.

thanks, I don't have much to lose.
