Alcantarea odorata

Thankfully I won't have to put this one back in the greenhouse for the Winter - it takes up too much room. The Alcantareas are all big and quite spectacular in bloom.

And a close up of the (relatively) huge flowers.

I had no idea these could get so big. How old is your plant. It's amazing.

I'm curious... won't have to put it in with the bloom attached? Or are you not saving the plant at all?

That is impressive! Does the name indicate it is fragrant?

Simply stunning Digital_Dave!!!

Hopefully we have another month before a killing frost. If we get close, I'll move it on a covered patio which is good for 2-3 degrees.

I've taken quite a few grass pups over the 5 or so years it's taken to bloom (from a pup) so I have several of them in various stages. Usually this species pops one larger pup at the end of it's blooming cycle.

Unfortunately, despite the name, the flowers are not fragrant.
