Burg anatomy 101!!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

I'm a brug hybridizer wannabe. It would help alot if i knew what the terms are for all the different parts of a brug. I'm confused about the calyx, corolla (thought that was a car)and all the others terms used here on the forum.
Can someone help me, please!!
TIA,
Jen

The corolla is the flower. The calyx is the green part that the flower emerges from. Hope this helps your anatomy lesson.

MsJen,
I don't honestly think its necessary to know what the parts are called to hybridize, but you should be able to get a very basic botany book from the public library if you trully want to learn the anatomy of plants. I must confess I only remember a smidgen of what I learned in school about plants...Like they all need h20 in some form....

Brugman, i read so many of your postings about how you pollinate and the success rate that you have.
In one of your posts you mentioned that you leave a part of the flower on it to protect the forming pod from moisture. I got confused as to what part it was you left, and thats mainly why i asked.

There's a nice little diagram of a brug flower at the bottom of this page http://home.att.net/~brugmansia2/versicolor.html

MsJen,
For doubles, its best to strip the flower/corolla completly off and leave only the pistal by itself when you hybridize. Otherwise, the corolla can pull the pistal lose or rot on the pistal and cause the pod to fall off. Hope that helps. I have a bunch of frost bit Double white seedpods outside right now. I was going to move it in the house as well, but I just cant ever make up my mind.
