Native Plant Society of North Central TX

Dallas, TX

Is anybody a member of this group? I have a flyer about a native plant sale they're having in Oct. in Ft. Worth. Given that I don't get around all that much b/c I'm so lazy busy, I don't know if I should make the trek from Dallas.

So does anyone know anything about NPSOT's annual sale? (Just asking.)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes I do, I am one of the organizers, it will be worth your time Saturday October 12th to come.
Here is the link http://www.txnativeplants.org/

We also are having a sale this coming Saturday 28th in Arlington
here is the link http://www.thewildscape.org/plant-sale-pix.php

Check them out Please.

Oh, goody. Glad I'll kinda know someone if I make it to Ft. W.

I also had the flyer for the 9/28 sale in Arlington. Not sure if I'll make that one b/c I have 2 'conflicts':
one is an all day sale at Northaven Gardens here in Dallas (not much info yet) on 9/28
and
Arlington sale is from 9 - 1 which is not good timing for me. But plant selection and prices look very promising.

Actually, 9 - 2 in Ft W isn't great. (Bad habit, but I'm a night owl.)

Do these sales usually sell out right away?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

We usually sell most everything, but not right away.
I hope you can make it.

My goodness, what a superb endeavor and one I've never even heard the slightest peep about. Looks like one of those places where I could grab my camera and just wander all afternoon.
Open to the public? Fee or donation for entry (as I'm always pleased to support such efforts either way)?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello Skeeter, are you referring to the Molly Hollar Wildscape? or the Native Plant Society.
Both are open to the public no entry fee, of course there is a fee for the plants.

4 inch 2.50
Quart 4.00
Gallon 7.00

I hope a lot of you can make it.

Skeeter - I was at a free seminar about native plants and such this past Saturday. The ad for it was placed in my City of Dallas H20 bill. It was at the seminar that I learned about the Native Plant Society. When I got home I looked up the Native Plant Society and then followed a link to Wild Plant Society. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known about either of the 2 organizations. So don't feel bad if you hadn't heard a peep.

Josephine - Now I'm glad that I started this thread. Maybe some other folks will also read it like Skeeter did.

Frostweed: Both the MH Wildscape and the plant society are something I'd like to know more about.
I think many of us get into a rut as far as our plantings go with trips to the same local (and close) nurseries over and over to get our yearly plants. After looking at the nursery listings in the links provided, I realized that more than a few were places where I used to shop for plants on a regular basis but had forgotten about them over time.
I may have to rethink my garden space since the native plantings thing has come up ;o)

flower child: I live in Mesquite and while our water bill usually contains a small newsletter, I rarely find info on upcoming events unless they're a major do of some sort that the city takes part in.
Mesquite is a great place to live but on the whole, I haven't found any local "clubs" that I'm interested in, Photography and gardening are my two main interests but I'm not an artist or quilter or a "crafty" person so while clubs I might have an interest in might be there, apparently they don't put out much publicity to attract attention or new members. OR... maybe I'm just not computer search savvy enough to look in the right places which is VERY possible.

Skeeter -

It was by luck that I actually read that flyer as I was more concerned with seeing how much my water bill was going to cost me.

So far, and I emphasize 'so far', I know of a few clubs or societies that meet on a regular basis. Most hold their meetings at Northaven Gardens and if you google Northaven Gardens or NHG.com, you should see the list. Or if I haven't deleted it, I can forward their free newsletter to you via D-Mail.I think there are some others in Dallas that were listed on a handout at the seminar I went to last weekend. Will check. Anyway, I'm guessing that NHG wouldn't be too hard to get to from Mesquite. It's on the west side of Central Expwy (75) on Northaven, between Forest and Royal. About a block or block and 1/2 in from Central. (And yes, I would like to put another 'h' in their name.) It's free to be a member and then you'll be on their mailing list. Or you can 'like' them on Facebook.

Don't know about photography. Used to until my 35 mm camera was stolen (when I purposely didn't take it to the Yukon b/c I knew it would really distract me) and now I have what I refer to as a 'bad eye' in that I'm losing some visual field. (Wanna know what car I drive so you can avoid me? :)
I do have a cousin who is a professional photographer that actually had one of his shots on a cover of The Rolling Stone. But I digress. We can always continue this chat on D-Mail.
