I have 6 Roma plants this year, by mistake. They were labeled Celebrity. And I have 6 Early Girl. Both were quite late, but for the first time in several years the Early Girl tasted just wonderful. The Roma, on the other hand, were almost tasteless. How do you all rate the comparative taste of Roma and others when raw?
I did get a nice recipe from the Recipes forum, where I posted a request for Roma recipes. I cooked halves all day today and now they are concentrated and very tasty.

Thoughts on taste of roma vs other tomatoes?
IMO, Roma is only worth growing if you will be canning or making sauces with them. They are very good for that purpose, but very poor for fresh eating.
Yep what Nicole said.
Agree, Roma's are great for canning/sauces but not great for slicing or eating fresh.
I disagree- in the past I have bought Romas during the off season because they were the only ones that had a decent taste- I guess it is all in the taster's taste-? I definitely don't think they should be grown just for processing-
We raised Burpee's, "Big Mama," Roma tomatoes this year, finished the last one this evening in a Mater sandwich. They tasted great!! On top of that, we picked several that were just over 1 lb each; nice and firm, and few seeds.
I will say, the Sun Gold tomatoes we grew were the sweetest I have ever tasted.

Romas are meaty and that is why they are considered a paste tomato, agreed the romas were especially sweet this year for eating, it usually isnt a norm tho.
