Our vacation place is a lot in a campground in the woods near Garrison MN. Normally I have several seed, suet and nectar feeders out to attract a great selection of birds. This summer we have had a problem with bears (usually not a problem there) and the campground has asked everyone to be sure to bring their feeders in at night. We haven't been up there too much since the problems started but I haven't been putting anything out since earlier in the summer when both my raccoon proof feeder poles were snapped off and the feeders were carried away-guess it was probably the bears before anyone knew about them:)
I'm planning ahead for next year and looking for ideas to avoid the bears. I've seen some folks string a wire/cable between two trees about 10 feet off the ground and hang the feeders on the wire. I'm not sure what would keep the bears from climbing the trees but I would think it would be difficult for them to go far on the wire. Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with bears?
Thanks!
Deb

Don't try that, it won't work!

Thanks Resin-that is actually very entertaining!!! I was wondering if they could do that :)

That was a good link. And that was what I was going to suggest - folks around here use a clothes line on pulleys to hoist their feeders up high. I had wondered if bears could figure out a way around that - they are not only very strong but smart too.
The rope in the pictures must be a good quality rope!
