i dont know what either of these are any help would be much appreciated.

they were found on the isle of skye this week

The 'spider' actually is an opilionid - http://www.teknofokus.fi/Luonto/Opiliones/IMGP2103p.jpg. They are close relatives of spiders, and often are called harvestmen.
The beetle is a rove beetle in the family Staphylinidae - http://www.flickr.com/photos/bscg/5296857937/
They are general predators on other small arthropods.
