Elephant Ears in standing water, not a water-pond.

suburban K.C., MO(Zone 6a)

They do great there! They've been in this water for nearly 2 months now and they've never looked better. They are quite generic, all the label from Walmart says is Mammoth Elephant Ear. They ARE big, I measured several leaves the other day at 20" long. For the past several years they were always drooping, even from one day to the next! It was as if I couldn't give them enuff water. So now, I set them in water and they do terrific! I always liked that look of the ear being 90° to the stalk and this way they are that.

The name "Elephant Ear" covers a very large number of plants in a number of different genera. Those are a Colocasia species, many of which normally grow standing in water, although not all of them.

Glad to have them. I wish I had a water-pond, I'd put them right in it!

Shallow water or even just waterlogged soil is okay for them.

I grow many of the diierent colocasia and alocasia in large pots with no holes so as water stays in the these are grown in there own containers and they do great. have 12 different types

They seem fine with water-logged soil..lol
I may do something like that in the future, a big pot(s) with no holes , they very definitely seem to grow better with lots of water I learned.
Here they are yesterday, they are plugging along quite good. -
The 2nd pic just shows them down at the end, plus I just wanted to get other plants in the pic!
