We have many hawks in our neighborhood and I love them. To me they are a symbol of good luck. This one was sitting on our roof yesterday and my husband grabbed the camera.
I love hawks!
Your photos are beautiful! I especially like the one in flight. I also like hawks but the only time I know they are around is when the chickens all run in their houses because they are hunting!
What a gorgeous creature! I love seeing them around our property. I can tell when they are in the area because the Blue Jays start 'squawking' and all the birds disappear from our feeders. Beautiful!
I love the Cooper's Hawk too. He looks so majestic when he sits on my back fence. Until yesterday I was concerned he had left the area, hadn't seen or heard him since late spring. Then yesterday, I cut the back lawn, went in the house for to get my clippers and some cold water and later when I came out I found a large feather (9 inches long!) near my vegetable garden. Sorry, I missed him, but I did hear him later. I have so many birds nesting and feeding in my yard, I felt as tho I was setting them up to get snatched by the hawk, but in five years, I've never seen remains of any small bird. I'm thinking the hawk prefers the chipmunks and voles over the birds. My daughter is a science text book editor and taught high school biology, she keeps reminding me - "circle of life, mom, circle of life" We need the hawks to keep everything in balance.
I love your photos, rteets.
Hawks are my favorites too.
When I've heard the first time their voice, I was sure it belongs to some little baby bird. It sound to pitiful and innocent.;))
Much later I discovered the noise belong to these beautiful predators. What is interesting, I often hear them during the night. I assumed they must be another kind of hawk. - I don't think they can be active day and night, and indeed, I was told there exist night hawks too [Southern California].
Actually you have many kind of them, but I don't know enought to distinct them. But I found nice link

with sounds they make and all. Maybe will be useful.
