Bloom?

Camilla, GA(Zone 8a)

Is there a special trick to getting Hoya's to bloom? I rescued 2 from a friends house when she passed away.. Her family was going to trash them along with all her plants..I have lovingly taken care of these 2 that were very near death out on her back porch and somehow they managed to survive a winter outside..

Sure wish I had taken before pictures.. They are beautiful now..I was just wondering about blooms. Any special hints..? Thanks.

This is now.. A come back from only the root..I could not even tell what they were until growth emerged..I kept them because they seem to have a good root system..So glad I did.

What can help is some well decomposed poultry manure and good bright light. A bit of sun is good but they don't like sudden change. That can be a problem if you move them to improve conditions for them. It can set them back a bit. Your plants do look quite healthy now.

Thanks, they already have both of those.. Maybe I am just impatient, after all, they have come back from basically only a root..lol Thanks again for your response.

They do look healthy and happy. Good rescue! :-)
I agree, if they have come on from just the roots, and apparently neglected for a time…It might just take a while. A good fertilizing, and patience? ;-)
Ahh, patience….grrr! ;-))

Pretty Hoya plants Larkie ~ and a good rescue.

I don't know what you started with for a root system but in my experience they need to be root bound before they start delivering blooms.

Also, I am sure you know but when it starts to produce blooms, don't remove the old bloom spurs as they will bloom over and over again.

Best wishes with your Hoyas... Kristi

Thanks Kristi,
They have grown so much that they are on the way to being root bound. So maybe soon I will get blooms. Thanks for the info about the bloom spurs.. Good to know.
