Here's a link to a planting chart. Also, on the Vegetable forum, there are several folks from the Houston area who can help.

fancyflea, In our area we do our best gardening in the fall. We plant tomatoes this month and start our broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale, etc from seed to plant in mid September. I also plant snow peas in September and lettuces and greens of all kinds. plant carrots, beets also. To keep from having too much mature at once, plant a few every two weeks for things like broccoli and cabbage. Read threads by Gymgirl who is more of a systematic gardner than I.

Do not plant beans, okra, or squash because they need it really hot to do well, same for melons.

There was an article on fall planting for Harris County in the Houston Chronicle Saturday edition. It said that you should transplant tomatoes throu the middle of this month, plant bush beans late August thru September (remember to plant some each week because bushes produce one big flush). Summer squash thru early September.
Cukes through early September. Winter squash can be started now as well.
Really have to watch the moisture in the ground and be careful of sunburn on new plants.
Mulch heavily and amend the soil now while it is hot. I turned under my potato bed last month and it is still weed free because of no rain. I will put some soaker hoses in place next week and deep water it before I set out my squash plants and some beans. Been throwing the grass clippings on top of it to help.
