Great Article Today by our Friend Marty!!
Thank you Josephine. You are so sweet to give me support. I appreciate you and all the friends Ive made at our round-ups. Gardeners are the best!
You are welcome Marty, it is a wonderful article with a lot of truth to it.
Loved your article. You write very well.
Thanks, Anna. It was quite a wonderful experience getting all the nice feedback. Im glad you enjoyed it.
Marty, just read your article. You have a wonderful outlook and you are truly a gifted and incredible writer! Please write more:)
Thank you grownative. Im glad you enjoyed it. and BTW, It's nice to meet you. Ive not seen you around before.
I have used Daves Garden as an occasional research resource for several years, but just recently subscribed in hopes of geeting more detailed plant specific info from like minded native plant gardners. Had a nice online chat w Amanda re asclepias seeds, so I consider my increased participation a success. Maybe I will have a bit of insight to contribute to others' gardening efforts too. Thanks again for the great article you wrote. It helped me reflect on a strained relationship I have with a family member.
I have over several years got to know several people in the Texas forum by first talking to them on line and then putting a face with a name at our plant swaps called Round Ups or RU's. As you probably know, Josephine (Frostweed) is a native plant devotee and helps us all with her knowledge and generosity with plants. Sheila FW is a butterfly lover and raises many caterpillars and shares her butterfly photos on that forum. Lepfarmer is a real Lepidopterist and is a great resource for all of us who try to provide for the butterflies. Newton's Third Law is a science teacher and collects some of the more rare plants like the pitcher plants and the flytrap types that capture insects. Everyone in the group is a strong supporter of growing native. There is DFWdennis who is into natives as well. That group in the DFW area are a great group of lovely people which you have right there close by. They make great friends and fellow gardners. Then there is Stephanietx and bannana18, and Loonie and catsgalore and patrob.and Kate whose handle is "msgrubbyfingers". Such nicer people cannot be found. Theres pbtx from Garland and Gypsi who just joined us for the first time last year and there is Sybram who lives further away but hosted our Ru's several times. There are some other new ones this year. I know I will probably forget one of my favorite people here but I have a plant from every one of these people in my garden and I love that aspect of it. I too was not a subscriber for several years but when I retired, I gave myself the subscription as a gift and it has become a very important community to which I belong and I value what I get here, very highly.
And.....I have not even touched on the community I have here in my area. We were without a place to host an RU for a while but for the past 2 years Rouxcrew has stepped up and volunteered her sheep farm in Hempstead. Our community is coming back together and growing. We have a blast at the farm, feeding baby goats, watching Joy's sheepdogs show off their skills and feeding the geese, ducks and guineas and oh yeah, swapping plants. Again, another fantastic group of people that I love to hang out with. Gardners really are great folks to be around. We have Rouxcrew our host, there is gymgirl, bariolio, ilovejesus99, taters, lindatx, smockette (who goes to both RU's like me), trishann, kittriana sometimes and all these folks spouses and some kids thrown in here and there. I just met another gardener in my area, vossner, who I hope will join us soon at an RU.
I guess what Im trying to say is that I worked so much most of my life, that I did not have much time for friends. I regret that and the sense of community and friendship with like-minded folk I have found thru DG is just such a treasure. I hope you find it so as well. Look forward to meeting you at an RU soon.
Wow! Marty, that is a great description of the friendship and sharing going on on this forum.

Grownative, I hope you will join us at the fall R.U. Are you a member of the Native Plant Society?
Sheila and I are members ans we could see you at the monthly meetings.
Josephine.
Thanks Marty for all the info on participants. I had picked up on just a few, so your descriptions were a tremendous help. Like you, I worked for many years and made friends in the workplace, but not much outside it, other than a few neighbors. Now that I have retired (early thankfully), the work friends are all still working and too far away. Plus we moved last year, so the connections w the neighbors has grown more distant. I look forward to meeting people at the next round up and will continue to monitor DG to see when / where that is once it is announced.
Josephine, yes I am already a member of the TX native plant society - north central chapter. We met at the NPSOT Plant sale this spring when I volunteered. I have been to the last couple of meetings too. -Laura
Oh Laura, this is wonderful!! Yes I know who you are, what a coincidence!! I look forward to doing things with you.
Josephine.
