Lemon Cucumber THING

Chaska, MN(Zone 4a)

I have grown a handful of varieties of cucumbers over the last several years. This year I am growing 2 types- a Lemon Cucumber, and Olympian cucumber. The Olympian are producing... the lemon, have lots of flowers (have had for some time) but they are also starting to get yellow leaves.. very little fruit , but I see a few babies, and now I noticed this THING growing in them. It is a Cucumber Stalk, but it is wide and flat... NOT like the rest of the plant. I have never seen this kind of thing??? Is it normal? Is it BAD? I'm thinking the yellow leaves are from too much wetness... No watering on my part..... just rain.. and we had a bit of colder weather here.. about 5 days of 50-60's. Here is a couple pic's.

I believe I've seen that on my foxgloves several years back. Caused by some kind mutation on the plant. I don't remember what causes that mutation though.

It's called fasciation but I don't know how it happens.

Hi Kim!

It happens with lilies as well.

As I remember, that fasciation does not cause any damage to the plant. It just looks difference.
