rust on black satin blackberries

Will rust spores stay in the ground and effect next years crop? Can you fumigate the soil to clean up
the spores,or move new plants to different area? The triple crown and Doyle plants are not effected.

Some rust is viable in the soil and can over winter. It is also highly mobile as airborne spores and can blow in from great distances.

There are differing levels of susceptibility by varieties.

I would not fumnigate the soil, rather I would treat the plants early in the season where rust has historically showed up with fungicides preventively.
